Pairs with

Catch the leak

The PowerG+ IQ Water Tile reports water and low temperature as two independent zones on an IQ Panel 5. One part number, one battery, two kinds of protection.

Where to put it

This is not a one-per-account accessory. Most properties have several places where water could run for hours before anyone noticed. Walk the job and look at:

  • Water heater
  • Washing machine
  • Dishwasher
  • Under kitchen and bathroom sinks
  • Utility and mechanical rooms
  • Basements and crawlspaces
  • Sump pumps and plumbing fixtures
  • Vacation and seasonal properties

At 0.43 in thick the tile slides under a water heater or behind a laundry machine and stays out of the way.

The question isn't whether the job needs a Water Tile. It's how many locations need protection.

How to sell it

You do not need a technical conversation to sell this one. Point at the water heater and ask:

"If this started leaking while you were away, would you want to know?"

The answer is always yes, and it works because the homeowner is picturing their own basement rather than evaluating a product. Ask it again at the laundry machine, again under the kitchen sink, and the count builds itself. Nobody needs to understand PowerG+ architecture to understand why they would want that call.

What it does

  • Water and freeze from one device - enrolls as two independent zones on IQ Panel 5
  • Freeze alert at 41°F (5°C) - fixed threshold, set above freezing so the alert arrives with time to act rather than after a pipe splits
  • Onboard audible alert - the tile sounds locally on a water event, so somebody in the building hears it before anyone looks at a phone
  • IP65 rated - a soaked tile keeps working after the event it was installed to catch
  • Up to 5 years on two CR2450 lithium cells, with low-battery reporting
  • Locate by sound - a TEST BUZZER option in the panel finds a tile already pushed under an appliance

Be precise with the customer about what this device does: the Water Tile detects and reports. It does not shut water off. Full specifications and the manufacturer spec sheet are further down the page.

FAQs

At what temperature does the freeze alert trigger?
41F (5C) ambient. The threshold is fixed and cannot be changed on the panel. It sits above freezing deliberately, so the alert arrives with time to act before a pipe splits.
How many Water Tiles does a typical property need?
More than one on most jobs. Walk the property and count the locations where a leak could run unnoticed: water heater, laundry, dishwasher, under sinks, utility room, basement. Each is a separate point of protection.
Does the Water Tile shut the water off?
No. It detects and reports. Shutting off the supply requires a compatible valve such as the Qolsys IQ Water Valve, which connects to the IQ Panel over Z-Wave 700 and can be driven by panel automation.
What panel software is required?
IQ Panel 4 software v4.6.1 or higher for full PowerG+ functionality. On v4.6.1 the panel enrolls the tile as two independent zones, one Water and one Freeze.
Can it be used as a water sensor only?
Yes. The Freeze zone can be deleted if freeze detection is not wanted. Note that deleting the Water zone removes both zones for that serial number, so delete the Freeze zone rather than the Water zone.
Does the tile make any noise itself?
Yes. It has an onboard buzzer that sounds an audible alert at the device on a water event. The panel also has a TEST BUZZER option, which is how you find a tile already pushed under an appliance.
How do I confirm placement before leaving site?
Use Settings > Advanced Settings > System Test > PowerG Test. The LED flashes three times: green is strong, amber is good, red is poor. If the signal is poor, reposition or add a PGP9920 PowerG+ repeater.
Will it survive being soaked?
Yes. It is IP65 rated, so it keeps working after the event it was installed to catch rather than needing replacement.
Can it detect water where the tile will not fit?
Yes, using the optional external probe and sensing cable accessories, which extend detection into tight or remote spots while the tile stays accessible. Accessories are sold separately.
