SKU:
KD-888D-N5

The 888D-N5 is a heavy duty explosionproof vibrating fire alarm horn for hazardous classified locations, diode polarized and operating on 120 VAC. It produces 100 dBA at 10 feet, measured in an anechoic chamber on an A-weighted scale.

Built for the commercial fire installer

Refineries, chemical process areas, fuel handling and grain facilities need notification appliances whose housing will contain an internal ignition, not simply survive the atmosphere around it. This horn is UL listed for Class I Division 1 and 2 Groups B, C and D, Class II Division 1 and 2 Groups E, F and G, and Class III locations.

At 100 dBA it carries over the ambient noise those environments generate. The corrosion resistant heat flowed epoxy finish handles the chemical exposure, and each unit ships with a sealing fitting for a 3/4-inch NPT nipple plus wire leads already fitted for connection to the notification appliance circuit. Low current draw at 0.13 A keeps long circuit runs within voltage drop limits.

Key features

  • 100 dBA output at 10 ft to carry over high ambient noise
  • Explosionproof housing UL-listed for Class I, II and III in Divisions 1 and 2
  • Diode polarized so the notification appliance circuit stays supervised
  • Corrosion resistant heat flowed epoxy finish in red
  • Low current draw at 0.13 A for long wire runs
  • Sealing fitting and wire leads supplied

System requirements

Requires a 120 VAC notification appliance circuit; observe polarity, since the horn is diode polarized. Mounts to any solid surface with two bolts, supplied by others. Requires a 3/4-inch - 14 NPT nipple, and the sealing fitting is included. Confirm the area classification against the listed groups and divisions before specifying. For a 24 VDC version, order the 74339U.

What hazardous locations is the 888D-N5 rated for?
UL listed for Class I Division 1 and 2 Groups B, C and D, Class II Division 1 and 2 Groups E, F and G, and Class III hazardous locations.
Is there a 24 VDC version of this horn?
Yes. The 74339U is the 24 VDC version of the same hazardous location horn, drawing 0.16 A. The 888D-N5 is the 120 VAC version at 0.13 A.
Does polarity matter when wiring it?
Yes. The horn is diode polarized, which is what keeps the notification appliance circuit supervised. Reversed polarity prevents correct operation.
What is included with the horn?
A sealing fitting for a 3/4 inch - 14 NPT nipple, and wire leads for connection to the notification appliance circuit. Mounting bolts are not included.
How loud is it?
100 dBA at 10 feet, measured in an anechoic chamber on an A-weighted decibel scale.
