The original SkyBell HD in satin nickel, with a 180-degree view and full-colour night vision rather than the washed-out infrared most doorbells fall back to after dark. Rated -40F to 140F, which is a wider band than almost anything else in the category.

Built for the installer

It runs from a 16-24 VAC transformer at 10 VA, or a DC supply at exactly 12 VDC and 0.5 to 1 amp. Two important wiring notes: a transformer with no doorbell chime in the circuit needs a 10 watt 10 ohm resistor, and a digital chime needs the digital doorbell adapter (ADC-VACC-DB-A). Getting either wrong is the usual cause of a doorbell that buzzes, rings constantly, or will not ring at all.

A PIR motion sensor covers up to 8 feet, separate from the camera's own detection. The internal battery is rated 3 to 5 years and exists to ride out chime circuit dips rather than to run the device.

FAQs

Does this work with a digital chime?
Only with the digital doorbell adapter (ADC-VACC-DB-A). Without it, digital chimes are not compatible and the doorbell will not behave correctly.
What if the transformer has no chime in the circuit?
Alarm.com specifies a 10 watt, 10 ohm resistor in that case. Without it the doorbell may buzz, ring constantly, or fail to ring.
What DC supply does it need?
Exactly 12 VDC at 0.5 to 1 amp. Unlike the newer doorbells there is no voltage range here, so a 16V or 24V supply is not a substitute.
What wire gauge should be used?
18 to 20 AWG for all Alarm.com video doorbell installations. Alarm.com notes that gauges outside that range change circuit resistance and may deliver incorrect power to the device.
Can two doorbells share one transformer?
Yes, but an additional 10 VA must be supplied for each extra doorbell on the same transformer. Two doorbells need at least 20 VA.
