The Kidde 30-3013 Explosionproof Smoke Detector brings high-performance optical smoke detection to Class I, Division 1 and Division 2 hazardous locations. FM Approved and IECEx Zone certified, it pairs a corrosion-resistant copper-free aluminum junction box with a hot-swappable sensor module that can be serviced without declassifying the protected area.

Built for hazardous industrial environments

The 30-3013 covers petroleum refineries, chemical processing plants, combustible storage facilities, turbine enclosures, battery rooms, and munitions manufacturing. Its integrated 0-20 mA analog output connects directly to Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and three on-board relays (Alarm, Auxiliary, and Trouble) integrate with Edwards fire alarm panels and auxiliary control equipment. IP44 ingress protection covers both onshore and offshore applications.

Installation

All wiring connects inside the integrated junction box. Up to four conduit entries accept 3/4 inch NPT or M25 threaded connections. Terminals rated for 14-18 AWG shielded stranded copper wire. Requires minimum 12 Vdc at the detector, with a maximum cable run of 2,000 feet from the power source.

Does the sensor module need the area declassified for maintenance?
No. The sensor module is intrinsically safe while powered and can be hot-swapped without declassifying the hazardous location. Remove four screws, pull the old module, seat the replacement, and verify via the magnetic test switch.
What hazardous location classifications does this detector cover?
FM Approved for Class I Div 1 Groups B, C, D and Class I Div 2 Groups A, B, C, D (T4 temperature code). Also IECEx Zone 1 certified (Ex db ia IIC T4 Gb). Covers refineries, chemical plants, battery rooms, and turbine enclosures.
Can this detector connect to a Distributed Control System (DCS)?
Yes. The built-in 0-20 mA analog output connects directly to DCS without external signal converters. Max loop resistance varies by voltage: 300 ohms at 12-17.9 Vdc, 500 ohms at 18-19.9 Vdc, 600 ohms at 20+ Vdc.
What relays does the 30-3013 include?

How do you test the detector without removing it?
Hold a magnet near the on-board magnetic test switch. The LED lights and the detector runs an immediate self-test of the smoke chamber optics. If it passes, it annunciates an alarm for 10 seconds and then clears automatically.
What conduit connections does the junction box support?
Up to four conduit entries, each accepting 3/4 inch NPT or M25 threaded connections. All wiring terminates inside the junction box on terminals rated for 14-18 AWG shielded stranded copper.
