The ADC-VDB770 is rated to -30C ambient. North of that, this collar takes it to -40C. It is a molded polymer ring that fills the gap between the doorbell back plate and the mounting surface, blocking airflow across the heat sink so the device holds on to the heat its own electronics produce.
Built for the installer
Ten degrees of extra margin is the difference between a doorbell that works all winter and a warranty call every January. On any job in a genuinely cold climate this is worth putting on the quote up front rather than going back for it.
It fits an already-mounted doorbell, with or without a mounting bracket. Separate the collar at the bottom, place it around the back plate, push it firmly against the surface until the back plate fins are hidden, then pull the two ends back together. No removing the doorbell and no rewiring.
