SKU:
KD-GSA-M278

The Kidde 278B Series double-action pull station drops into conventional fire alarm circuits on standard 4-inch square boxes with no proprietary backbox required. Double action operation - lift the door, then pull the handle - cuts false alarms from accidental or malicious pulls, and the latching mechanism holds the alarm state until an authorized person resets it with the included key.

Built for the commercial installer

Rugged red Lexan 940 construction handles high-traffic commercial corridors, stairwells, and exit paths. UL38 (S218) and FM listed. Screw terminal connections keep field wiring straightforward, and the station mounts semi-flush on a standard 4-inch square backbox with single gang plaster cover or surface-mount with the optional 276B-RSB backbox. Break glass rod confirms intentional activation for AHJ documentation.

Key features

  • Double action operation reduces false alarms from accidental or unauthorized activation
  • Mounts on standard 4" square boxes - no proprietary backbox for semi-flush installs
  • Key reset with 276-K1 included - optional general alarm key (276-K2) available separately
  • UL38 and FM listed for conventional fire alarm initiating circuits
  • Red Lexan 940 housing with white raised letters for high-visibility ADA compliance
  • Break glass rod provides tamper evidence and confirms intentional activation

System requirements

Connects to any conventional (non-addressable) fire alarm control panel initiating circuit via screw terminals. Semi-flush mounting requires a standard 4-inch square backbox with single gang plaster cover (minimum 2-1/4" depth). Surface mounting uses the Cat. No. 276B-RSB surface back box (red).

What backbox does this pull station require?
Semi-flush mounting uses a standard North American 4-inch square backbox with single gang plaster cover (minimum 2-1/4" depth). For surface mounting, use the Kidde Cat. No. 276B-RSB surface back box (red).
How do I reset this pull station after activation?
Insert the included 276-K1 reset key behind the alarm handle and turn clockwise. Restore the toggle switch, replace the glass rod, and reclose the station door.
What is double action operation?
Double action means the user must perform two deliberate steps to initiate an alarm: lift the station door, then pull the handle. This reduces false alarms from accidental bumps or unauthorized pulls compared to single action stations.
Is this pull station compatible with my fire alarm panel?
Connects to any conventional (non-addressable) FACP initiating circuit via screw terminals. Single pole: 3.0A/30 VAC, 1.0A/28 VDC. Double pole: 1.5A/30 VAC, 1.0A/28 VDC. For addressable panels, see Kidde Intelligent Pull Stations.
What replacement parts are available?
276-GLR replacement glass rod package, 276-K1 station reset key (included with all key reset stations), 276-K2 general alarm key (ordered separately), and 276B-RSB red surface back box.
