The AB4G-SB surface mount box gives fire alarm installers a clean mounting option for Kidde Intelligent detector sounder bases when a flush-mount electrical box isn't available or practical. Surface-mount to the ceiling or wall, land the sounder base on top, and the install looks finished without cutting into the structure.

What sounder bases does the AB4G-SB work with?
The AB4G-SB is designed for the Kidde AB4G series sounder bases: GSA-AB4G (Audible Sounder Base), SIGA-AB4G (Intelligent Audible Sounder Base), SIGA-AB4G-LF (Intelligent Low-Frequency Audible Sounder Base), and GSA-SBT (Temporal Sounder Base).
When would I use a surface box instead of a recessed electrical box?
Use the AB4G-SB when a standard 4 in. electrical box isn't available at the mounting location - common in retrofit jobs, exposed-ceiling commercial spaces, open-plenum ceilings, and concrete structures where cutting a recess isn't practical.
Does the surface box affect the sounder base's sound output?
No. The surface box is a mounting enclosure only. It does not alter the audible output characteristics of the sounder base mounted to it. Sound output ratings (dBA) are determined by the sounder base model itself.
Can this be used with non-AB4G Kidde detector bases?
No. The AB4G-SB is specifically sized for the AB4G sounder base family. Standard Intelligent detector bases (without the sounder) use different mounting hardware.
