SKU:
LM-R31-8PA2

The Luminys R3 Starter Series NVR lands eight PoE cameras in a compact Mini 1U chassis and starts recording 4K footage on first boot - 2TB HDD pre-installed, no drive sourcing or on-site install. Plug cameras into the eight PoE ports, commission through LumiCloud Lite, and the job is done.

Built for small commercial installations

The R31-8PA2 is NDAA compliant and ONVIF interoperable, so it clears federal, state, and commercial contract requirements without a compliance conversation. Analytics run at the camera edge - Intelligent Motion Detection, Video Content Analysis, Face Detection, and License Plate Recognition on compatible Luminys cameras - so the NVR processes metadata, not raw video. LumiCloud Lite is included for remote viewing via LumiViewer desktop and mobile; upgrade to LumiCloud Unity (sold separately) for 30-day rolling cloud storage and AI-based event alerts.

Key features

  • 2TB HDD pre-installed: ships ready to record, no drive sourcing or install step on-site
  • Eight integrated PoE ports (IEEE 802.3af/at, 72W total, 25.5W per port) - no separate switch needed, single-run installs
  • 4K recording and output - up to 8MP per channel, HDMI 4K output for local monitoring
  • Camera-side analytics - iMD and VCA on all 8 channels; Face Detection and LPR on up to 4 channels with compatible Luminys cameras
  • NDAA compliant and ONVIF interoperable - cleared for government and commercial contract sites
  • LumiViewer included - remote desktop and mobile access, no additional licensing required out of the box

System requirements

Network connection via single RJ-45 (10/100 Mbps). HDMI and VGA outputs for local display. Expandable to 10TB with a supported replacement HDD (1 SATA bay). Camera-side analytics require compatible Luminys cameras. LumiCloud Unity subscription sold separately for cloud recording and AI events.

Do I need to buy and install a hard drive separately?
No. The R31-8PA2 ships with a 2TB HDD pre-installed and is ready to record on first boot. The single SATA bay supports up to a 10TB drive if you need more capacity down the road.
Is this NVR NDAA compliant?
Yes. The R31-8PA2 is NDAA compliant, making it eligible for federal, state, and government-funded commercial security projects.
Does this NVR need a separate PoE switch?
No. All eight PoE ports are built into the NVR (IEEE 802.3af/at). Total PoE budget is 72W with a maximum of 25.5W per port. Run a single Cat5e or Cat6 from each camera directly to the NVR.
Will third-party ONVIF cameras work with this NVR?
ONVIF interoperable and RTSP-supported cameras connect for recording. Camera-side analytics (iMD, VCA, Face Detection, LPR) require Luminys cameras - those features rely on metadata from Luminys camera firmware.
What's the difference between LumiCloud Lite and LumiCloud Unity?
Lite (included): real-time remote viewing via LumiViewer, no cloud recording. Unity (sold separately, annual per-camera subscription): 30-day rolling cloud storage, AI event alerts, and remote device health monitoring.
What analytics does this system support?
Camera-edge analytics with Luminys cameras: iMD and VCA on all 8 channels; Face Detection and LPR on up to 4 channels. The NVR receives and indexes camera-generated metadata - no heavy video processing on the recorder.
