SKU:
KD-EGCSVWN

The Kidde Genesis LED EGCS ceiling speaker-strobe combines high-fidelity audio and LED strobe notification in a low-profile package that drops onto standard 2-gang and 4-inch square boxes. Field-selectable candela (15, 30, 75, or 115 cd), voltage switching (25V/70V), and wattage taps (1/4W to 2W) let you dial in the right output for each zone without stocking multiple SKUs.

Built for the commercial fire installer

LED technology draws significantly less current than legacy Xenon strobes, putting more devices on each NAC circuit and reducing booster power supply count on the job. EGCS strobes are backwards compatible with existing Xenon devices on the same circuit and field of view, so retrofits don't require full rip-and-replace. UL 1971 listed, FM Approved, and 520Hz low-frequency capable for sleeping areas per NFPA requirements. Current draw stays the same at every candela setting (35 mA DC, 45 mA FWR), which means future output changes never force a circuit redesign.

Key features

  • Field-selectable candela output: 15, 30, 75, or 115 cd - adjustable under the cover without removing the device from the ceiling
  • Dual-voltage speaker: 25V and 70V in a single model with selectable 1/4W, 1/2W, 1W, or 2W taps
  • High-fidelity audio: Speech Transmission Index (STI) of 0.81 for clear voice intelligibility in emergency conditions
  • 520Hz low-frequency tone capable: meets NFPA standards for commercial sleeping areas
  • Ultra-slim 1.5" profile: low-profile ceiling mount with no visible screws
  • Room side wiring plate included: pre-install and pre-wire before drywall, then snap the device on after
  • Uniform current draw: same current at every candela setting simplifies system design and allows future output changes without recalculating circuit loads
  • Quick-swap covers: change housing markings (FIRE, ALERT, or no marking) without rewiring

System compatibility

Synchronizes with Kidde CC Series Signal Modules, Booster and Auxiliary Power Supplies, and Intelligent and Conventional Control Panels. Exceeds UL synchronization requirements (within 10 ms over a two-hour period). Mounts to standard 2-gang and 4-inch square electrical boxes at least 1-1/2" deep. Optional EGCTW trim plates available for oversized openings.

Does this work with legacy Xenon strobes on the same circuit?
Yes. Genesis LED EGCS strobes are backwards compatible with Xenon-based strobes. They can be mixed on the same NAC circuit and used in the same field of view, making them ideal for phased upgrades and retrofits without full rip-and-replace.
What electrical boxes does this mount to?
Standard 2-gang and 4-inch square electrical boxes at least 1-1/2" (3.81 cm) deep. Optional EGCTW trim plates cover oversized openings. Compatible with surface mount gang box 27193-26 (white).
Can I change the candela or wattage setting after installation?
Yes. Candela (15, 30, 75, or 115 cd) and wattage taps (1/4W, 1/2W, 1W, 2W) adjust via slide switches under the cover. Settings remain visible through cover windows. No need to remove the device.
Is this speaker-strobe rated for sleeping areas?
Yes. The EGCS Series is 520Hz low-frequency capable, meeting NFPA standards for newly constructed commercial sleeping areas. Must be used with approved audio hardware and a factory-supplied 520Hz tone.
Does the current draw change with different candela settings?
No. Current draw is the same at all candela settings (35 mA DC, 45 mA FWR). This simplifies system design and allows future output changes without recalculating circuit loading.
What synchronization sources are compatible?
Kidde CC Series Signal Modules, Booster and Auxiliary Power Supplies, and Intelligent and Conventional Control Panels. Requires 20 Ī© max. between any two devices. Exceeds UL synchronization requirements (within 10 ms over a two-hour period).
Can I add FIRE or ALERT markings to this model later?
Yes. Quick-swap replacement covers are available: EGCSVWF-CVR (White, FIRE marking) and EGCSVWA-CVR (White, ALERT marking). Swap requires only a screwdriver - no rewiring.
