SKU:
KD-302-ET-194

The Kidde 302-ET-194 is a rate compensation heat detector rated at 194°F (90°C) for all-weather installations where moisture, dust, or condensation would compromise a standard detector. Its hermetically sealed construction and plastic hex-grip bushing with 1/2" NPT conduit threads let you mount directly to a threaded hub cover or standard outlet box - no special backbox required.

Built for the commercial fire alarm installer

The 302-ET series handles indoor and outdoor applications where a watertight seal is critical. Rate compensation technology offsets the thermal lag inherent in conventional fixed-temperature detectors, improving response time during fast-rising fire conditions without false alarms from normal temperature swings. The detector is self-restoring - once ambient temperature drops below the rated threshold, the contacts open automatically without manual reset. FM and UL listed, MEA accepted.

Key features

  • Rate compensation: offsets thermal lag for faster, more accurate response to genuine fire conditions
  • All-weather construction: hermetically sealed against moisture, dust, and internal condensation
  • Self-restoring: contacts reset automatically when temperature drops below 194°F - no manual reset needed
  • 1/2" NPT box mount: plastic hex-grip bushing threads directly into hub covers or standard outlet boxes
  • FM & UL listed: approved for commercial fire alarm systems with verified spacing tables
  • Wide operating range: functions down to -40°F, suitable for cold storage and exterior installations

System requirements

Normally-open contact design - wires in series on a conventional two-wire initiating circuit with end-of-line resistor. Rated for 6-125 VAC (5A) and 6-25 VDC (1A). Requires a STONCO27 or equivalent weatherproof box for outdoor installations. Maximum ceiling temperature for the 194°F model is 150°F (66°C).

Does this detector require manual reset after activation?
No. The 302-ET-194 is self-restoring. When the surrounding air temperature drops below 194°F, the outer shell contracts and the contacts open automatically. No reset button, no truck roll.
Can I use this detector outdoors?
Yes. The 302-ET model is hermetically sealed and rated for all-weather use. For outdoor installations requiring a watertight seal, mount it in a STONCO27 or equivalent weatherproof box with the 1/2" NPT threaded entry.
What is rate compensation and why does it matter?
Rate compensation offsets thermal lag in fixed-temperature detectors. In a fast fire, the outer shell expands faster than the internal struts, closing contacts at or before the rated temperature. Faster detection without false alarms.
What spacing should I use for FM-approved installations?
FM spacing is 30' x 30' (9.1 x 9.1 m) on smooth ceilings up to 10' high. UL vertical is 50' x 50', UL horizontal is 40' x 40'. Refer to NFPA 72 for high or beamed ceilings.
What wiring does the 302-ET-194 require?
Normally-open, two-wire device. Wire in series on a conventional initiating circuit with end-of-line resistor. Rated for 6-125 VAC (5A) or 6-25 VDC (1A). Standard fire alarm circuit practice.
