SKU:
KD-KIR-HD

The KIR-HD is a dual-sensing intelligent heat detector that monitors for both rapid temperature spikes and sustained high heat on the same SLC loop point. Rate-of-rise detection catches fast-moving fire conditions (triggers at 15°F/min), while the fixed-temperature element activates at 135°F for slower-developing heat events. One detector covers both scenarios, reducing device count and loop loading on Kidde intelligent fire alarm systems.

Built for the commercial fire installer

Rotary-addressed with 160 available addresses (0-159) set by screwdriver - no programming tool or laptop required. Mount the detector on any compatible KI-series base, set the address, and the panel picks it up on the next SLC poll. Low current draw (51 µA standby, 68 µA alarm) keeps loop capacity available for larger systems. Automatic environmental compensation adjusts sensitivity to ambient temperature changes, reducing nuisance alarms in spaces with HVAC cycling or seasonal temperature swings.

Key advantages

  • Dual-sensing in one device: fixed temperature (135°F ULI / 140°F ULC) and rate-of-rise (15°F/min) detection on a single SLC address
  • Rotary addressing (0-159): set with a screwdriver, no programming tool needed
  • Low SLC current draw: 51 µA normal, 68 µA alarm - maximizes available loop capacity
  • Automatic environmental compensation: reduces false alarms from ambient temperature fluctuations
  • Eight compatible base types: standard, 4-inch, relay, fault isolator, and audible sounder options
  • UL 521 and ULC listed: meets UL 521, ULC-S530-M91, and CAN/ULC S524-01

System requirements

Requires a Kidde intelligent fire alarm control panel with SLC loop capability. Mounts on any compatible KI-series base (sold separately). Standard bases fit single-gang boxes; 4-inch bases with trim skirts cover standard 4-inch square electrical boxes. Accepts #12 to #18 AWG wiring.

What fire alarm panels is the KIR-HD compatible with?
The KIR-HD works with any Kidde intelligent fire alarm control panel that supports SLC loop communication. It is not compatible with conventional (non-addressable) panels.
Does the KIR-HD require a programming tool for addressing?
No. The KIR-HD uses rotary address switches (0-159). Set the address with a small flathead screwdriver before mounting. No programming tool or laptop required.
What is the difference between fixed temperature and rate-of-rise detection?
Fixed temperature triggers at 135°F (UL rated). Rate-of-rise triggers when temperature climbs faster than 15°F/min. The KIR-HD provides both in one detector, catching slow-developing and fast-moving fire conditions.
What bases work with the KIR-HD?
Standard mounting (KI-SB), 4-inch with trim skirt (KI-SB4), relay output (KI-RB/KI-RB4), fault isolator (KI-IB/KI-IB4), and audible sounder bases (KI-ABST standard tone, KI-ABLT low frequency). All bases sold separately.
Can the KIR-HD be used outdoors or in unconditioned spaces?
The KIR-HD is rated for indoor use. Operating range is 32 to 120°F with humidity up to 93% RH noncondensing. For spaces with wide temperature swings within that range, the automatic environmental compensation helps reduce nuisance alarms.
Is the KIR-HD UL listed?
Yes. Listed to UL 521, ULC-S530-M91, and CAN/ULC S524-01. Manufactured to ISO 9001 standards.
