SKU:
KD-KIR-OSHD

The KIR-OSHD brings Kidde's Optica advanced optical sensing to commercial fire alarm systems, combining multi-criteria smoke detection with rate-of-rise heat sensing in a single rotary-addressed head. UL 268 7th Edition listed with built-in nuisance rejection that filters out cooking particulates and other common false alarm sources - fewer callbacks, fewer service trips.

Built for the commercial installer

This detector drops onto any Kidde FX Series intelligent fire alarm panel's SLC loop with rotary dial addressing (1-125, up to 250 per loop). Five sensitivity settings, automatic day/night adjustment, and twenty pre-alarm thresholds give you granular control from the panel without touching the detector after install. Two levels of dirty detector warning keep you ahead of maintenance calls.

Key features

  • Multi-criteria sensing: advanced Optica photoelectric smoke detection plus rate-of-rise heat detection (15°F/min) and 135°F fixed temperature in one head
  • UL 268 7th Edition listed - meets the latest sensitivity and performance standards (also UL 521, CAN/ULC-S529, CAN/ULC-S530)
  • Built-in nuisance rejection filters cooking particulates and environmental contaminants to reduce false alarms
  • Rotary addressing (1-125) - set the address at the detector, no programming tool required
  • Environmental compensation with automatic day/night sensitivity adjustment adapts to changing conditions without manual intervention
  • Non-volatile memory retains address and configuration through power loss

System requirements

Requires a Kidde FX Series intelligent fire alarm control panel and a compatible mounting base (KI-SB, KI-SB4, KI-RB, KI-RB4, KI-IB, KI-IB4, or sounder base KI-ABLT/KI-ABDT/KI-ABST). Powers from the SLC loop at 15.20-19.95 VDC. Wall mount 12 in. max from ceiling; heat detector spacing 50 ft. max centers per NFPA 72.

What panels is the KIR-OSHD compatible with?
The KIR-OSHD works with Kidde FX Series intelligent fire alarm control panels. It connects to the SLC loop and is addressed via rotary switches (1-125).
What's the difference between the Optica and the older KIR-PHD?
The Optica series uses advanced optical sensing technology with improved nuisance rejection. It's UL 268 7th Edition listed (the latest standard) and adds enhanced environmental compensation and automatic day/night sensitivity adjustment.
Does this detector require a specific mounting base?
Yes. It requires a Kidde compatible intelligent base: KI-SB (standard), KI-SB4 (4-inch), KI-RB (relay), KI-IB (isolator), or a sounder base (KI-ABLT, KI-ABDT, KI-ABST). Bases are sold separately.
How does the nuisance rejection work?
The Optica sensing chamber uses multi-criteria analysis to distinguish between actual smoke particles and common nuisance sources like cooking particulates. This reduces false alarms without sacrificing detection speed for real fire conditions.
Can I test this detector without removing it from the base?
Yes. The KIR-OSHD is compatible with Testifire 1000 and Testifire 2000 multi-stimulus test tools for functional testing in place.
