The KI-SB4 mounts any Kidde KI-series Intelligent detector to a standard 4-inch square electrical box without adapter plates or aftermarket trim. The included KI-TS4 trim skirt covers the exposed mounting ears for a clean ceiling finish, eliminating a separate SKU and an extra trip to the supply house.

Built for the commercial fire installer

Room-side terminal access means you land wires after the base is mounted, not before. The base accepts #12 through #18 AWG conductors across seven screw terminals, with #16 and #18 AWG recommended for the cleanest terminations. Beyond 4-inch square boxes, the KI-SB4 also fits 1-gang, 3-1/2-inch octagon, and 4-inch octagon boxes at 1-1/2 inches deep - one base SKU covers the most common rough-in scenarios in commercial fire.

Which detectors mount to the KI-SB4?
All Kidde KI-series Intelligent detectors: KIR-PD (Smoke), KIR-HD (Heat), KI-HCD (Heat + CO), KI-COD (CO), plus all multisensor and Optica variants. One base covers the full KI lineup.
Do I need to buy the trim skirt separately?
No. The KI-TS4 trim skirt ships in the box with every KI-SB4. It covers the exposed mounting ears when the base is installed on a 4-inch square electrical box. If you ever need a replacement, the KI-TS4 can be ordered separately as a spare part.
What is the difference between the KI-SB and the KI-SB4?
Both are standard KI-series bases with identical terminal layouts. The KI-SB fits 1-gang, 3-1/2" octagon, and 4" octagon boxes. The KI-SB4 adds 4-inch square box support and includes the KI-TS4 trim skirt to cover the mounting ears.
What electrical boxes does the KI-SB4 fit?
The KI-SB4 mounts to 4-inch square, 4-inch octagon, 3-1/2-inch octagon, and 1-gang electrical boxes. All boxes must be at least 1-1/2 inches deep. It also fits European BESA and 1-gang boxes with 60.3mm fixing centers.
Are the wiring terminals room-side or face-side?
Room-side. All seven screw terminals are accessible from below after the base is ceiling-mounted. You mount the base first, then land your wires - no need to pre-wire before securing the base to the box.
Does the KI-SB4 support the GSA-LED Remote LED?
Yes. The KI-SB4 has dedicated terminals for the GSA-LED Remote LED: Terminal 4 carries Remote LED (-) and Terminal 5 carries Remote LED (+). Wire the GSA-LED to these terminals for remote visible annunciation outside the protected space.
