SKU:
KD-FX-PDD

The Kidde FX-PDD installs on the supply or return side of HVAC ductwork to catch smoke early and shut down air handlers before contaminated air circulates through the building. SLC-powered from the FX Series panel, it draws just 45 A in standby - no dedicated power supply run required. Rotary addressing sets the detector address on-site with a screwdriver, no laptop needed.

Built for the commercial fire installer

At under 2 inches deep, the FX-PDD fits tight plenum spaces where deeper detectors won't work. Photoelectric sensing with environmental compensation and differential sensing prevents nuisance alarms from dust buildup or gradual environmental changes without sacrificing response to real smoke events. Standard sampling tube spacing means drop-in migration from other duct detectors without re-drilling the duct wall. UL, ULC, and CSFM listed. Compatible with all Kidde FX Series intelligent fire alarm control panels.

Key features

  • SLC-powered, no extra power supply: 15.2 to 19.95 Vdc from the panel's SLC loop, 45 A standby current
  • Form C auxiliary alarm relay: controls HVAC shutdown or ancillary equipment directly from the detector, rated 2.0A at 30 VDC
  • Standard sampling tube spacing: drop-in replacement for other duct detectors without re-drilling the duct
  • Rotary addressing: set detector address 01-127 with two rotary switches, no programming tool required
  • Self-diagnostics with dirty sensor warning: microprocessor tracks hours of operation, alarm history, and maintenance dates in nonvolatile memory
  • Magnet-activated test switch: verify operation without opening the housing or accessing the duct

System requirements

Requires a Kidde FX Series intelligent fire alarm control panel. Sampling tubes ordered separately (SD-T8 through SD-T120, 8" to 120"). Mounts to standard North American 1-gang box or 4-inch square box with 1-gang cover. Optional SD-PH protective housing available for high-humidity environments.

Does the FX-PDD require a dedicated power supply?
No. The FX-PDD is SLC-powered from the Kidde FX Series panel (15.2 to 19.95 Vdc), drawing only 45 µA in standby. No separate power supply run to the duct location is needed.
What sampling tubes are compatible?
The FX-PDD uses standard sampling tube spacing for drop-in migration from other duct detectors. Kidde offers sampling tubes from 8 inches (SD-T8) to 120 inches (SD-T120), ordered separately to match the duct width.
Can this detector shut down the HVAC system directly?
Yes. The built-in Form C auxiliary alarm relay (rated 2.0A at 30 VDC resistive) can directly control HVAC shutdown or other ancillary equipment without additional relay modules.
How do I set the detector address?
Use a screwdriver to adjust the two rotary switches on the front of the module. The TENS switch (0-12) sets the tens and hundreds digit, the ONES switch (0-9) sets the ones digit. No laptop or programming tool required.
Does a duct detector replace open-area smoke detectors?
No. Per NFPA 90A, duct smoke detectors supplement the building's fire detection system by preventing smoke circulation through HVAC systems. They are not a substitute for open-area or early warning smoke detectors.
Which Kidde panels is this compatible with?
The FX-PDD is compatible with all Kidde FX Series intelligent fire alarm control panels using rotary addressing. Supports up to 64 addresses on a 64-point panel or up to 127 addresses on a 127-point panel.
