The Kidde Intelligent Optica KIR-OSCD does two life-safety jobs from one head on one loop: multi-criteria optical smoke detection and life-safety carbon monoxide detection. Fewer heads to install, fewer bases to wire, and one fewer item on the AHJ's punch list in occupancies where CO monitoring is now mandated.

Built for the commercial installer

Runs on any Kidde Intelligent Loop controller over existing SLC wiring. Rotary addressing 1 to 125 set with a screwdriver on the back of the head. Two dials, no programmer, no laptop. The onboard microprocessor analyzes the smoke and CO sensors independently and reports fire, CO, or both to the panel, so the response at the front desk matches the actual condition at the head.

Requires a Kidde Intelligent Loop controller and a compatible mounting base. Standard (KI-SB / KI-SB4), Relay (KI-RB / KI-RB4), Fault Isolator (KI-IB / KI-IB4), and Audible/Sounder (KI-ABLT / KI-ABDT / KI-ABST) bases are all supported. For separated fire (TC3) and CO (TC4) tone patterns at the head, add an FX-T3T4 Temporal Pattern Generator.

Does the KIR-OSCD work with my existing Kidde panel?
If the panel uses a Kidde Intelligent Loop controller, yes. The detector runs on your existing SLC wiring with no additional home runs.
Do I need to buy a mounting base separately?
Yes. Pick the base for your application: KI-SB (standard), KI-RB (relay), KI-IB (fault isolator), or KI-ABLT / KI-ABDT / KI-ABST (audible sounder). Four-inch square box installs use the KI-SB4 series, which ships with a KI-TS4 trim skirt.
Does it distinguish CO alarms from fire alarms at the panel?
Yes. The detector analyzes the smoke and CO sensors independently and reports fire, CO, or both. When paired with an audible base and an FX-T3T4 tone generator, it separates TC3 fire and TC4 CO tone patterns at the head.
When does the CO sensor need to be replaced?
The CO cell has a 10-year life from date of manufacture. The panel indicates "END OF LIFE ACT" when the sensor expires and the trouble remains active until the detector is replaced, so no manual tracking is required.
How is the detector addressed?
Two rotary dials on the back of the head: a tens dial (0 to 12) and a ones dial (0 to 9). Set with a screwdriver during installation. The control panel flags duplicate addresses automatically.
Where does this detector fit best?
Mixed-occupancy commercial work where CO monitoring is code-mandated: hotels, dorms, schools, hospitals, assisted living, day cares, and rooming houses. Anywhere you would otherwise pull a separate smoke and a separate CO to satisfy the AHJ.
